Winner for the third time was Susie. owned by Culpeper dog warden Kelly Corbin. Second was Tommy Olinger's Singer, followed by Jack Bruce's Jake. Bruce, from Sperryville. retired the challenge trophy with Cleo in 1974 and has won or placed every year since the races began in 1%8. Fourth place ribbon went to June Clark's Jan. followed by Tommy Olinger's Violet.
In the morning before the regular races 23 teams from eight hunts competed in a pair race over a three-mile flagged course. Winner of the fast time section was a Rappahannock Hunt team of Heather Marsh on French Will and Mike Brown on Timbocktoo with a time of b:04.
Second was Middleburg Hunt's pair of Speedy Smithwick on Zoomy and brother Rog on Machii Pichu. followed by Old Dominions Hounds' team of Lil Clark on Promise to Play and Sherry Hamill on Traveling Red, the winners last week.
Coming closest to the optimum time of 8:22.5 was Warrenton Hunt's team of David Rollison on Gray Flannel and Allen Olson on Sina. who did it in 8:1b. Second was the Keswick team of Bob Pumphrey on Rebel and Bob Zachman on Fancy Colours, and third was Rappahannock's pair Scan Marsh on Ginger Brandy and Peter Weslow on Orion.
