According to statistics in the 1979-80 edition of the Virginia Department of Education's Facing Up, Falls Church spent $3,510 per pupil while Rappahannock spent $1,383. On 1980 SRA tests. Falls Church’s fourth graders averaged 28 percentile points better than Rappahannock students in all categories, ranking from a low of 19 points higher in language arts to 37 points higher in educational ability. Eighth graders in Falls Church averaged slightly over 20 points better in all categories from a high of 33 points more in total mathematics to a low of 11 points better in science. For eleventh graders, Fall Church scores ran an average of 20 percentile slots higher, ranging from a low of 14 points better in science to a high of 28 points better in total math.
