score of Rappahannock's fourth graders is higher than the scores of 51 percent of the students in the national sample.
At the eighth grade level, Rappahannock students showed dramatic improvement with scores climbing above 1979 result., in all categories: 32nd to 46th percentile in education ability. 32nd percentile to 42nd percentile in reading. 33rd to 41st percentile in language arts, 37th to 47th percentile in math concepts, 32nd and 35th percentile in math computation. 32nd to 37th percentile in math total, 29th to 39th percentile in social studies and 31st to 46th percentile in science.
Compared to their performance this year, however, Rappahannock's 1980-81 eighth grade class scored slightly better as fourth graders in 1976-77. Their educational ability remained at the 44th percentile between 1976 and 1980 but scores in language, reading, math computations, total math, social studies and science slipped a few percentage points. Only the scores in math concepts improved over the four year period.
Statewide, scores of fourth graders over that same period jumped 11 percentage points in math computations, eight percentage points in math total while staying at the same level in math concepts. On an average throughout Virginia, 11th grade scores in 1980 stayed just about even when compared to last year’s results. Rappahannock's juniors, however, posted
