The RappahannockRapidan Community Services Center announces an educational advocacy course for parents of special education children. Presented by staff from the Parent Educational Advocacy Training Center in Alexandria, this course will provide parents with a variety of skills which will enable them to fully participate in the development of educational services for their children.
Topics include:
— Understanding your role in educational planning for your child.
— Identifying your child’s strengths and needs.
— Helping to develop the individual education plan.
— Understanding school evaluations.
—Working effectively with teachers and school personnel.
— Understanding due process rights and procedures.
Enrollment is open to interested parents of special education children in Madison. Culpeper, Fauquier. Rappahannock and Orange Counties. One or both parents may attend, but enrollment is limited. The course will be held in Culpeper on the following dates and times.
Friday, October 22 - 7:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m.
Saturday. October 23 - 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Sunday. October 24 - 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Participants must plan to attend the full 15 hours of instruction. Respite care may be available for parents needing such services. The fee for attendance is $25.00. with a few scholarships available. This fee covers the cost, of all materials including a published book bv the staff of the Center.
