According to Buntin’s report at Monday1 s board meeting, plans for renovation of the old Rappahannock jail have been approved by the Department of Corrections and are now with Culpeper architect Hunter Spencer for final drawings that must be completed before specifications can be put out on bids.
Foot Dragging
Spencer sent a plumber to inspect the old jail last week and give an estimate on plumbing and heating work, the sheriff noted. "He said he’s doing everything he can but it seems to me he’s dragging his feet,” Buntin added, attributing the delay in the start of the construction project to the architect.
Asked about plans for a joint corrections facility being pursued by Culpeper and Madison counties, Buntin stated that he thought a regional jail was the answer if economically feasible for Rappahannock to join. "But
