I talk with them, counsel them, sometimes even go home with them and stay the night if they’re frightened.” If the victims want family or friends notified, Irene does the calling. If they don’t want anyone to know what’s happened, VWP volunteers provide support throughout the ordeal of hospital stay, recovery and trial.
Women who have been assaulted are understandably preoccupied with the whereabouts of their attacker. "They want to know if he’s in jail or if he's out on bond. We work to keep him in jail and if he’s released, we let her know. Sometimes, we relocate the victim,” Wodell said.
