Septic field permit forms now cover three separate sheets and include information to show someone checking two years later why the decision to approve was made, according to Burke. With the added detail, “We won’t be able to issue as many permits in the same amount of time," he said. This isn't critical at present with economic factors slowing residential development but if economic conditions change, a time squeeze could arise at some later point, Burke added.
The new regulations also create a special review committee. If a property owner encounters a “roadblock" in attempts to secure a sewage disposal permit. the board of supervisors or the private party involved can contact either the county health department or go directly to the committee, the sanitation supervisor noted. "So there is a way it can be handled."
Sludge Permit
The regulations which went into effect on November 1 call for a permit in order to dispose of septic tank sludge. Burke reported. He added, however, that at present, the county has no sludge disposal operations.
