Volunteers escort witnesses as well as victims to hearings. “Without this assistance, many victims and witnesses wouldn’t be able to find their way around or in some instances might find themselves in the awkward and unnerving position of waiting with the family and Mends of the accused,” Wodell pointed out. To avoid confrontation, separate waiting rooms are provided for defense and prosecution witnesses. Then volunteers stay with both victims and witnesses throughout the entire court proceeding.
