finally, volunteers raise money. The only tax dollars involved in Loudoun’s Victim Witness Program go to pay the director’s $20,000 salary, according to Wodell. Compensation for victims comes through the special fund administered from Richmond but financial help is also provided through the efforts of VWP volunteers. With backing form local merchants, Loudoun’s WAGE radio, citizens’ groups and former victims, they scrape together the money to house victims of spouse abuse and their children, to pay funeral expenses, to cover medical bills and to relocate victims and witnesses.
Loudoun’s Victim Witness Program is a joint effort that’s been underway for four years, begun in 1978 with a grant from the Law Enforcement Assistance Administration and the Division of Justice and Crime Preventtion.
