These notice procedures have had an unexpected side benefit. With the help from VWP, Loudoun’s law enforcement officers have avoided countless hours of wasted time. They know when they’re expected to testify and are alerted again by Victim Witness an hour before they are scheduled to take the stand.
With police and vivilian witnesses both, efforts are aimed at getting them in and out of court as fast as possible. If transportation is a problem, volunteers provide rides to and from hearings. They’re available to sit with small children left at home when Mom or Dad must appear as a witness and they will talk with employers who are inclined to withhold pay from a worker subpoenaed to give testimony.
