Jacobsen said, "By closing portions of the Drive, rangers will be able to concentrate patrols on problem areas and increase hunter contacts along the Park boundary. This year rangers from Richmond and Petersburg National Battlefields will be temporarily assigned to hunting patrols in the Park. These additional rangers will allow us to cover more territory and respond more quickly to tips and complaints. We ask our Park neighbors to call Park Headquarters (703-999-2227), collect, immediately, if they observe any illegal hunting activities along the Park boundary."
Three persons have been charged recently with spotlighting deer in the Park, according to Jacobsen.
Warren D. Seale of Crozet. was apprehended in the South District while Danny W. Presgraves and James E. Vaughan, both of Luray, were found in the North District. All were charged with violating the State spotlighting law.
Seale was fined $50. Presgraves and Vaughan, who were also charged with hunting in the Park and with possession of a firearm, will appear before the U.S. Magistrate on November 18 in Charlottesville.
