Rappahannock voters went to the polls on Tuesday in less than record numbers to give an edge to Democrat Richard Davis over Republican Paul Trible. But according to unofficial returns, Trible won the Virginia Senate seat vacated by Harry F. Byrd, Jr., with 51 percent of the vote to Davis’ 49 percent.
With four precincts still out Wednesday morning, the count statewide stood at 724.492 for Trible and 689, 815 for his Democratic opponent.
Incumbent Republican J. Kenneth Robinson will return to Washington with an overwhelming endorsement from the 7th District voters, garnering 61.5 percent compared to Democrat Lindsay Dorrier’s 37.3 percent. Citizens Party candidate David Toscano trailed far behind with 1.3 percent of the vote districtwide.
