The Fauquier and Loudoun County Public Libraries are sponsoring a 10-part lecture-discussion series on The Southern Library, naissance and Beyond, starting Feb. 6.
Scholars and writers from Virginia colleges and universities will lecture and lead discussions on selected works by Southern authors from the 19208 to the present, in the third series funded by the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities and Public Policy.
Beginning with the series on The Southern Woman: Myth and Reality, the library’s programs have gained a reputation for excellence and have become models for similar events around the state.
For this new series the Loudoun County Public Library is joining the Fauquier Library to bring the programs to Middleburg.
Beginning Feb. 6 at the John Barton Payne Building in Warrenton, the lectures will be held in Warrenton and at the Community Center in Middleburg on alternate Mondays from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.
The public is encouraged to read the books to be discussed before each session. They will be available for loan at the participating libraries and paperback editions will be sold at the sessions Feb. 6 and 13 and afterwards at the Paperback Book Store in Middleburg.
Richard Bausch of George Mason University will give the keynote address Feb. 6 in Warrenton and Feb. 13 in Middleburg. On Feb. 20 David Wyatt from the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities and Public Policy will speak in Warrenton on William Faulkner’s The Unvanquished.
Moving to Middleburg Feb. 27, Peter Wirth, University of Virginia, will discuss All The King’s Men by Robert Penn Warren.
