A Leesburg native, John Alexander has been General District Court judge in the 20th district since 1980. He received his law degree from Washington and Lee University in 1942. Alexander served one term in the State Senate and was Fauquier , County Commonwealth’s Attorney from 1967-1973. , He’s alsq ja past president of the Fauquier County Bar Association and has been a member of the Virginia Trial Lawyer's Association, the Virginia Bar Association and the Virginia State Bar. While practicing law in Fairfax, he was also a member of the Fairfax To<Ph Council.

Alexander served in the U.S. Army during World War II and in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He also belongs to the National Guard.
