an Planning District Commission resolved that Route 211 through Sperryville should only be widened and that a by-pass shouldn’t be built.
The highway department planned to four-lane Route 211 fawn the Page County line through-n>r around Sperryville. The state couldn’t four-lane through Page County and the Shenandoah National Park. Park rule wouldn’t allow it.
Local planning commission member Pete Luke said the people of Rappahannock wanted to keep the Sperryville area rural. But if the road were widened, the bottleneck of traffic would benefit Sperryville’s tourist business, he said.
Among those on a steering committee for organization of a Rappahannock County Youth Center were Granville Eastham, Rapley Owings, George Graham, Julian Brown, Roger Flinchum and Col. Dale Metzinger.
Delegate D. French Slaughter .reported a bill before the 1974 General Assembly to require all counties to have kindergartens. Slaughter supported leaving the matter to local option.
