If the carpet is really water logged, remove it for drying. Wet carpet can warp wood floors and the carpet itself will probably mildew if left to dry on concrete, according to Compton. “Pull it back or lay it somewhere else with the backing up and turn fans on it,” he advised. “It generally takes two or three days for carpet to dry. A lot of horned don’t have the room to lay a carpet out. If that’s the case, you might try checking with a commercial carpet business, particularly one that does cleaning, to see if they’ll take the carpet while it dries out.”
Compton stressed that regular vacuum cleaners should never be used to suck up excess water. “You could be electrocuted,” he warned. In addition, he cautioned against turning on ANY electrical applicances while standing on a wet carpet or floor for that same reason.
