It was also reported in the January 23 issue of the Rappahannock News that absenteeism in the Washington Elementary School prior to the Christmas vacation cost the county school system $2,375.40. For each child absent, it cost the county $1.48 per day. Some of the poor attendance was due to illness, but many of the absences were avoidable, the paper reported.
Approximately 11,000 citizens from Rappahannock and Culpeper Counties turned out to receive Type I Sabin Polio Vaccine. The sponsors of the “Sabin on Sunday” program hoped to come close to 100 percent immunization after two more clinics.
“Beach Party” in color was showing at the Pitts Theatres in Front Royal and a subscription to the Rappahannock News cost $2.50 for Rappahannock and adjoining counties.
