“And I think the kids are really going to like doing it, especially some of the musical numbers,” she added. “They’ll be singing “If I Had a Million Dollars,” “Food Fight at Lunch,” “First Love,” songs about mom and dad, songs about television.”
In addition to the portions taken from the Broadway hit “The Me Nobody Knows” and material compiled from ttie writings and thoughts of local youngsters, “Where I’m Cornin’ From” will also include numbers written by Pali Allan, a
veteran of the stage. Her credits include winning the Hopwood Award for play writing several years in a row from the University of Michigan where she majored in theater, television and film. While a student, she wrote an original film—music, lyrics and script—for a Detroit TV station. After finishing graduate work on a scholarship to Tufts University where she taught classes while writing, producing and acting in plays, she organized the Public Theater of Boston and taught a theater workshop at Brookline High School there. Since coming to Rappahannock County, she has directed and starred in the Rappahannock Players’ production of Peter Pan in 1981.
“We’re also seeking poetry and creative writing material from young people of this county who are interested in seeing their work used in the show,” said Allan. Submissions may be left at the Rappahannock News for delivery to the writer/director.
Allan is looking for performers in sixth through 12th grade. “We need people who can sing as well as act,” she noted.
Auditions for Wakefield students will be held at Wakefield School during eighth period on February 6, 7 and 8. Auditions for students from Rappahannock County Elementary School and the high school are set for those same three days
