Mrs. Gertrude Tobin George Bum, 79, died Tuesday, April 3, 1984, at the home of her son, Gerald P. George of Front Royal, where she had been residing.
Funeral services were conducted on Friday at the chapel of the Tumer-Robertshaw Funeral Home in Front Royal by Dr. M. Ott Davis. Burial was in Prospect Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Bum was bom March 10, 1905, in Rappahannock County, daughter of the late Kemuel and Edna Kidwell Tobin. A retired nurse, she attended school in Rappahannock County, finishing her first two years of high school at the old Flint Hill School. Her last two years were completed at Alexandria High School.
Mrs. Bum attended the State Teacher’s College in Fredericksburg, which is now Mary Washington College, and completed her nursing training at the Loudoun County-Leesburg Hospital in 1927. Her first husband was the late Wallace West George, Sr.
Surviving are her husband, James W. Bum of Front Royal; three sons, Wallace West George, Jr. of Warrenton, John Tobin George, Sr. of North Huntington, Pa. and Gerald Paxon George of Front Royal; one brother, Robert Tobin of Covington; two sisters, Margaret Holzier of Orlando, Fla. and Ester Mae Wood of Altamonte Springs, Fla.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
