through the scene of an accident investigated by Trooper R. A. Baines and Deputy Todd Brown in which a horse was struck by a car near Flint Hill.
Baines pursued the vehicle, lost it at the Washington by-pass, turned around and then spotted the vehicle again on Route 211 headed toward Sperryville. Joined by the Sheriff and deputies Brown and Ray Jackson, the trooper chased the vehicle toward Culpeper on Route 622 and south on Route 231 at speeds of over 100 miles per hour. The car finally stopped in a private driveway seven miles from the town of Madison, Woodward said.
The breaking and entering and grand larceny at the Flint Hill Pentacostal Church occurred sometime between Friday morning, April 6, and Sunday afternoon, April 8, the sheriff reported. Entrance was gained by removing a window air conditioner; a public address system and four speakers valued at over $1,000 were taken in addition to an undetermined amount of money collected for radio evangelism. Woodward also asked for public assistance in halting a rash of vandalism to state traffic signs. “Anyone seeing anybody tearing down state signs, please notify us. These are your tax dollars that the vandals are destroying,” he noted.
