Local government officials from 22 jurisdictions across Virginia attended a three-day Basic Emergency Management Workshop in Richmond, March 27-29. Among those participating in the workshops was Robert Mahlbacher, deputy coordinator for Rappahannock County.
The Basic Emergency Management Workshop, sponsored by the Virginia Office of Emergency and Energy Services, is designed to provide an overview of emergency management in Virginia and to assist local emergency managers in dealing with day-to-day concerns as well as major emergencies in their jurisdictions. Topics covered included: legal basis and authdHty for Emergency Services, the role of the emergency services coordinator, State and local plans and planning support, emergency operations, warning and communication, damage assessment, public information, hazardous substances and sources of specialized assistance.
The workshop concluded with an emergency exercise to integrate many of the topics covered earlier in the workshop.
