Runners have stepped up their training and organizers their preparations as everyone gets ready for the annual 10 kilometer Fodders tack Classic set for April 21.
Diance Bruce reports that as of last weekend, over 100 hopefuls had pre-registered for the road race, promising a full field for the starter to send off from Flint Hill. The first 20 men and the first 20 women to cross the finish line six miles away in Washington will be awarded special tee-shirts. The coveted Eva B. Smith Memorial will be presented to the first man and woman from Rappahannock County to finish. In addition, trophies for first, second and third places will be handed out in 22 different categories.
This year, a new category for expectant mothers has been added. Bruce reports that prizes will be given to every “obviously expectant” mother who completes the 10 kilometer course.
M^jor underwriters for this year’s race include Coca Cola and Eileen Day Realty of Washington. Local businesses and individuals in the community are again sponsoring various Fodderstack classes.
