RCHS drama instructor Don Bomberger sent a note home with students cast in the spring musical. He promised their parents that participation in drama provides a general presence with crowds and develops character, poise and good vocal habits.

As true as this may be, the cast of “The Sound of Music” has already developed a presence and a poise through past participation. In fact, a few of its members ei\joy regional fame.

Gennie Hickman, cast in the lead role of Maria, was outstanding in a small part in “Midsummer Night’s Dream.” Marie Davis, who plays the Mother (“Climb Every Mountain”) Abbess, is getting ready to take on the competition at the state 4-H Share the Fun contest later this month. She polished off all district comers in Culpeper on March 17.

The three main nuns are played by Julie Burke, Aney Massie and Denise Shorb. Their singing voices are all famous in Rappahannock. Burke took first place in the Bland Contest sponsored by the Lions’ Club.
