Senator Suggests No Referendum
State Senator Kevin Miller (R) recommended not pursuing an advisory referendum on the zoning issue when he met October 19 with Ron Frazier, chairman of the Rappahannock Public Action Committee (RPAC). Senator Miller had met September 28 with members of RPAC’s steering committee, who asked him to pursue placing the question of which zoning ordinance, the 1973 or the proposed, on the ballot. If done, the vote outcome would be non-binding.
Senator Miller suggested the best course for RPAC to take in the zoning dispute would be for the opposing sides to work together to reach a compromise. The senator said he had talked to people in Gloucester County where an advisory referendum is on the ballot. Their opinion: The referendum did more harm than good.
Frazier said RPAC would continue to work toward settling the issue, but that he hoped the referendum still could be considered a possibility.
