In related news, 13 Sperryville volunteer firefighters recently completed a 90-hour state certified Firefighter 1 training course, Leake reported. Classes took place at the Sperryville Fireball.
Eight more firefighters from Sperryville now are completing advanced training courses; six of them are enrolled in Firefighter 3, a 115-hour pump and maintenance class conducted at the Salem Fire hall.
The Sperryville Volunteer Rescue Squad fund-raiser proceeds will help meet current operating expenses,' Jody ' Wingfield, treasurer, said. The rescue squad doesn’t always receive donations for gasoline although many calls are completed throughout and outside the county, she noted.
Rescue squad personnel also are hoping to replace their second ambulance, a 1970 Chevrolet. Even their number-one ambulance has seen better days; it has been in service continually since its purchase in 1978.
“We want to give a special thanks to Morris and Martha Lou O’Bannon, who allow us to set up on the premises on Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day and weekends in October,” Wingfield added. Mr. O’Bannon and daughter Martha Lou are owners of the EmDorium.
