When Evelyn Willis returned to her family home of Mt. Prospect at the edge of Washington after many years away, she liked the changes she found.
“The town looks much better than H did when I was a girl,” she says. HI am also delighted to see the very pleasant mixture .of different kinds of people here.”
The daughter of Arthur and Emily Miller, Willis operated and still commutes regularly to a successful interior and exterior design business in New York.
Many of Willis’ plans are for the appearance of the town.
“No one likes for an outsider to come in and criticize the town,” she says. “For all purposes, even though I grew up here, I’m an outsider. I think the town is great and I have some very modest suggestions.”
Willis would like to see the entrances into town made more attractive. *T can say that since I’m on one of the entrances,” she jokes. “I’d like to see more trees and care being taken of our fine old trees.” . Willis is also in favor of some kind of architectural review. “I don’t want people to be frightened of this,” she stresses. “Some people have the wrong impression that this will mean the town can tell you what changes you have to make to your house or what kind of doorknobs to put on your door. This isn’t true. It simply allows a committee to review plans tor new construction to make sure it fits into the existing buildings.” Because of her skill in this field,
