The Town of Washington’s newly formed planning commission began its official existence at its first meeting on Thursday, May 2. The five members elected officers, set a regular monthly meeting date and decided to hold a public hearing on the proposed historic district ordinance.
The commission officers are: chairman, Frank Reynolds; vice-chairman, Bill Wickens and secretary, Dan Lewis. The commission will meet every fourth Wednesday of the month at 8 p.m. in the courthouse.
After taking care of the organizational details, the commission discussed the historic district ordinance proposed by the town council. The ordinance would establish an architectural review board that would study plans for buildings within the historic district to make sure that the buildings would conform to the period between Washington’s founding and 1900.
