4. wnue on tne school board 1 saw salary increases of 12, 14 and 16.4 percent appropriated, with the responding echo in the tax rates. I saw also that these generous increases were a drop in the bucket, and had little change in the morale or our standing in the V.E.A. published rankings of salaries.
5. I do not suggest that we jeopardize our pupil/teacher ratios as these are important to me. Almost a decade ago we had 22.2 students for each teacher. I point out in fairness that these are total numbers, not classroom. It does however reflect a 40 percent decrease over today’s productivity.
6. I am very uncomfortable with the idea that taixes can go up 15 percent a year, or even 56 percent in the last two years as we have here in Rappahannock, and we will never accomplish our goal or offering competitive salaries at our schools! If we don’t reduce costs I’m afraid competitive will be the tax rate with out neighboring areas.
7. That as all of the above occurred, we have received continually more funding with decreasing enrollments from the Federal, State and County sources.
8. I feel all of the above to be fact, and points to a possibility that our total school overhead, (machine) teachers,
