On Sunday, May 19 at 7 p.m. in the Gay St. Theater of Washington, Va., five modem dance pieces will be performed. They include a duet by Laura Crowne entitled “The Ground Between Us,” performed by Crowne and Sally Nash: “Expected Arrivals” and ‘Taking Away,” choreographed by Maureen Day, a Rappahannock County resident who is in the dance department at VCU; and two other works by VCU dance majors-“Caged Marbles” and “Intentions of Spring.”
The evening will provide a diversity of movement and imagination. The first half will be a series of short pieces. “Expected Arrivals” is a dance for five and a live saxophone player who also uses found objects to make sounds. There is a sense of on-going activity, repetition, a series of comings and goings with both minimal and rhythmic movement.
