The confusion that ensued when the supervisors sat down at their meeting May 6 to discuss the proposed school budget underscored the need for a county administrator.
Rather than give serious consideration to the educational needs of the county, the supervisors labored through most of the meeting just trying to figure out what the proposed budget meant. A county administrator, or an informed professional of some sort, should have been there to assist them.
For over an hour, the board waded through figures in the budget, cutting numbers and percentages in a seemingly haphazard mariner. The supervisors left the impression that they really didn’t understand the budget well enough to pass judgment on it. Yet pass judgment they did.
