With membership low and no ladies’ auxiliary, all of the members do many different jobs at the squad. The members do all of that extra work and get up at all hours to answer calls because they want to help people.
“It’s very rewarding, and I know that’s the typical answer, but it really is a good feeling especially if the call was a real emergency and you come back knowing you’ve helped someone,” Wingfield said.
That feeling is what keeps the members going despite all of the problems. “A lot of times it’s hard to drop what you’re doing to go on a call,” Johnson said. “But when you hear that tone, everything else stops.”
