Attend Reunion
The International Student House Alumni Association will hold its first reunion Sunday, May 19 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the International Student House in Washington, D.C.
The International Student House was founded in 1936 by the American Friends Service Committee, a Quaker organization, to offer foreign and American students a place where they could live and meet together and learn to understand each other better. In 1962, it became a non-profit corporation managed by a board of directors consisting of interested members of the Washington community.
Since 1936, the House has served thousands of students from practically every country in the world.
The emphasis on the first alumni reunion, bringing together alumni from the 30s to the 50s, will suggest the future dedication of a plaque honoring Grace Lowry, the first house mother. Mrs. Lowry gave much of herself to early residents and visitors from 1936 to 1943.
Paul Feys, director of International Student House, will talk about plans for renovation and expansion of the existing facilities and for the 1986 anniversary celebration.
Truman J. Keesey, former public information officer for the Government of the District of Columbia, is managing public relations for the event. Keesey now resides in Washington, Va.
