Bicyclers along the road are always a source of interest to those who are traveling in cars. Especially if the cyclers have all of the professionallooking gear, questions about where they are from, where they are going and why they want to go on bicycles will be asked among riders in an automobile.
For David and Bernice Chesler of Massachussetts, a trip through Rappahannock last week with an overnight stay at Meadowbrook Bed and Breakfast in Slate Mills, was part of their vacation. They started their trip a week and a half earlier at Dulles Airport and were on their way to Luray before heading back.
The Cheslers planned their trip so that they would ride 30-35 miles a day to stay at a different bed and breakfast each night. Although this was the first such trip in Virginia for the Cheslers, they have taken numerous other bike trips all over the northeast.
Proof of their experience can be found in Bernice Chesler’s book, Bed and Breakfasts in the Northeast, which includes information on 300 bed and breakfasts from Maine to Washington, D.C. and 200 reservation services all over the country. Reservation services match the family to hosts of bed and breakfasts. The book is published by Globe Pequot Press of Chester, Conn.
“It has been nationally acclaimed
as the most useful bed and breakfast book on the market,” Bernice said. “This trip is not a research trip, just our style of vacation, but the second edition of the book will likely include Virginia.”
