Classical Day
Wakefield will host its annual Classical Day on Friday, May 10. Students look forward to this event all year for it is a day that lets them come to school in togas and tunics, participate in ancient sporting events and feast at a traditional Roman banquet.
This year, there will be readings from classical literature, a movie and a lecture. The public is invited to attend the lecture that is scheduled to begin at 10:15 a.m. in the school auditorium.
The featured speaker is Ellen Herscher who is the president of the Washington area chapter of the Archaeological Institute of America. She is currently employed by the American Association of Museums and has taught archaeology at Cornell University and the University of Minnesota. In addition, Herscher has done field work in the Eastern Mediterranean and has had experience in marine archaeology.
