Solid Waste
Delbert Price, representative from the solid waste committee, reported that the contract for usage of the present landfill site expires June 30, 1985. Price passed along the committee’s recommendation that the county pick up the first of two option years on the contract.
Also, Price reported that Robert H. Forman, an official from the state department of health, judged the county’s landfill operation to be “substandard.” Forman estimated the life expectancy of the landfill to be anywhere from 6 months to a year.
Price said the committee is looking into all waste disposal options for the county. He told the supervisors they should be prepared to spend a significant amount of money regardless of the system chosen. The solid waste committee will hold its next meeting Thursday, May 16 at 9 a.m. in the courthouse. Forman will attend.
Courthouse Renovation
The board decided to defer implementation of handicapped facilities in the courthouse for at least a year. The move was intended to buy time while determining if the building’s historic status exempts it from the mandate requiring handicapped facilities. The board approved the implementation of air conditioning, carpeting and other renovations in the courthouse.
