Chester Gap Carnival Underway

The annual Chester Gap carnival is underway at the carnival grounds and will continue through Saturday evening. Tonight, Thursday, the Royal Tones will be performing from 8-9 p.m. and 10-11 p.m. The Mystic Sound will perform on Friday evening from 8-9 and 10 to 11 p.m. The honorary fire chief will be crowned on Saturday at 10 p.m. At midnight on Satunlay the grand prize will be given away.

‘Another Country’

This elegant and powerfully acted film is based on an incident of the 1930’s when some English schoolboys spied for Russia. It will be shown this Saturday and Sunday, July 20 and 21, at 7:30 p.m. at the Gay Street Theatre. Director Marek Kanievska gives an extraordinarily informed view of how “playing the game” is part and parcel of British upper class life. It’s rated PG and is 90 minutes long.

Vacation Bible School At

Sperryville Methodist Church

The Sperryville United Methodist Church will have Bible School at the church beginning July 22-26 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon daily.

The theme for the week will be “Tell Me The Stories Of Jesus.” An interesting week has been planned and will conclude with a special program on Sunday evening. The public is invited.

Jenkins Family Reunion Scheduled

The third annual family reunion of the late Aubrey R. and Ellen Baker Jenkins has been scheduled for Sunday, July 21 at the Rappahannock Park on Route 211 near Washington. All relatives and friends are invited. For additional information call 675-3662.

Shenandoah Valley Music Festival

The opening weekend of the Shenandoah Valley music festival at Orkney Springs will include two concerts, July 20 and 21.

The first concert of duo piano music will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, and will feature Sue Boyd and Linda Stutzenberger. The second festival event, “Brass & Brunch”, will consist of a buffet brunch in the Orkney Springs Hotel at 1 p.m. July 21. For additional information call 703-459-3396.

1980 Class Reunion Scheduled

The Rappahannock County High School class of 1980 will hold its five year reunion July 27 at the home of Bryant Lee on 211 at Massie’s Comer. The cost will be $3 per person and $5 per couple. Fund Raising Weekend

On July 20 and 21, the Sperryville Antique Market plans to open its doors and facilities (free of charge) to all Rappahannock County nonprofit and community organizations for a weekend of “unrestricted” fund raising, exhibits and/or demonstrations.

Biological Farmers Workshop Set

The Extension and Virginia Association of Biological Farmers are co-sponsoring a workshop on Ecological Farming at Blackstone on Saturday, July 20 at Southern Piedmont Research and Continuing Education Center. The center is located on Route 40, two miles west of Blackstone across from the airport, watch for signs. All members and the public are invited to attend.
