Brattleboro Brass Band
Rappahannock County will be hosting one of the country’s premiere traditional American dance bands on Friday, August 2, at 8 p.m. in a combined street dance and concert.
The Brattleboro Brass Band from Vermont is an ensemble that plays swing, jigs, reels, waltzes and schottisches. They have been described as sounding like a combination of a Dixieland Jazz Band, a marching parade band, a tum-of-the-century quadrille band and a Jewish Klezmer band all rolled into one.
The audience is invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets and sit and listen to this extraordinary music and to get up and dance in the streets. In case of rain, the event will move to the Gay Street Theater.
The musicians are being brought to the area through the dual efforts of the Bluemont Concert Series {nd the Rappahannock Association for the Arts .and the Community. Admission is $5 for the general public and $4 for RAAC members.
Farm Show Scheduled For July 25-29
Culpeper-Madison-Rappahannock farm show will be held July 25-29 at Culpeper Agricultural Enterprises. Entries must be turned in at the Rappahannock Extension Office by Monday, July 15. For additional information call the Extension office at 675-3619.
Historical Society Meeting
The quarterly meeting and annual picnic of the Rappahannock Historical Society will be held at the home of John B. Morgan in Woodville on Friday, August 2, at 6 p.m.
FCC Representative
A representative from the Federal Communications Commission will be at the Black Kettle Restau ant on Wednesday, July 31, at 7 p.m. to discuss problems with television reception in the town. The public and TV service people are encouraged to attend.
Blue Ridge Draft Horse And Mule Show
The fourth annual Blue Ridge Draft Horse and Mule Show will be held at Ferrum College’s Blue Ridge Farm Museum on Saturday, July 27 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
At noon there will be a buggy, cart and wagon parade and later in the afternoon there will be a parade of antique farm machinery. A tour of the Farm Museum’s reconstructed 1800 living history farm is included in the show’s admission price. Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for children ages 6-12.
