That amount of blood is among the highest ever required by a single individual. It was drawn from the supplies maintained by the Washington Region Blood Services, which includes both Fauquier and the Charlottesville area.
Red Cross officials point out that the Washington Region is able to supply such massive amounts of blood because of the regular appearances of the bloodmobile in Fauquier and the other areas of the Washington Region, which embraces 37 counties in Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland as well as the District of Columbia.
Because of the increasing demand for blood, Borjes said that the bloodmobile will be in the Fauquier/Rappahannock area 20 times in this fiscal year - three more times than last year.
