Dinner Set
For July 23
Emergency medical personnel from throughout the five counties of Planning District 9 are invited to attend the seventh annual dinner and meeting of the Rappahannock-Rapidan Emergency Medical Services Council that is set for Tuesday, July 23, at Commonwealth Park near Culpeper.
The dinner will feature roast sirloin beef, and the highlight of the evening will be a presentation by Garry L. Briese, executive director of the International Association of Fire Chiefs.
Briese is a former director of the Florida chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians. The national affiliate of this group was responsible for setting up the guidelines for pre-hospital care that are now in use by rescue squads throughout the country.
All EMS council directors, members, rescue squad and hospital personnel, fire fighters, local and state government officials and any interested citizens are invited to attend the meeting.
During the evening, awards will be presented in several categories for outstanding contributions to emergency medical services in the fivecounty area.
This year’s accomplishments will also be highlighted, including the implementation of district-wide protocols and the addition of a staff position for advanced life support training. Each county in the district will also have a display of emergency medical equipment and skills techniques.
Madison will furnish a heavy duty crash truck while Warrenton will bring a light duty model. Amissville will display a basic life support ambulance, and Orange will provide an advanced life support unit. Culpeper’s Water Rescue team will also be demonstrating rescue techniques using a variety of ropes and equipment. Both MedSTAR and Pegasus medical evacuation helicopters will be available.
The dinner begins at 7 p.m. in the Commonwealth Club at Commonwealth Park. To reach Commonwealth Park, take Route 522 south from Route 3 just off the Route 29 Culpeper bypass. The cost of the evening is $12 per person.
