The four students who composed the Wakefield team worked with alternates Jason Buratti, Sharon Homg, Chris Larrieu, James Stephens, and Christa Ann Vogel. The students began preparing after Christmas with practice drills sent by the contest sponsors. Contest advisor and faculty sponsor Carol Westervelt commented that it was great fun working with the students because they were so eager to learn.
The contest is a cooperative project of the National Society of Professional Engineers, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, NASA, the CNA Insurance Companies, and the U.S. Department of Education.
