that the Division of Forestry is concerned about debris burning forest fires in their area.

Another important reason for the spring fire prevention effort is the recently released Economic Study that shows Virginia’s forest resource is worth $4.2 billion to the commonwealth each year. Managing and protecting this resource is the responsibility of the Virginia Division of Forestry. Forest fires that bum through quality hardwood stands ruin the lower portion of the tree which is the most valuable cut for veneer and quality lumber. Most pulpwood and paper companies cannot utilize wood that has been burned in forest fires.
