The Loudoun supervisors are split among four Democrats, two certified Republicans, a Republican who ran as an Independent to protect his federal job and a Republican who has been disavowed by the local Republican leadership.
The board, with some dissent, voted a neutral position on the bill, although it opposes another redistricting bill introduced by Del. Ford C. Quillen (D-Scott), chairman of the House P&E Committee.
That legislation, which the Senate approved on Friday by a 32-7 partisan vote, would force any local redistricting plan drawn between July 1 and June 30, 1988, to be submitted to a Joint Reapportionment Committee of the Assembly for approval.
