In addition to traditional houseto-house contacts, radio and TV public service announcements, news releases and elementary school programs, the Division of Forestry will be releasing two posters featuring Ernest and Tova Borgnine with Smokey Bear.
The centerpiece of the Division’s 1986 fire prevention campaign has been the excellent cooperation of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Borgnine. Several months ago, Ernest Borgnine posed with Smokey Bear for an arson poster in Nashville, TN. At the same session, Mr. and Mrs. Borgnine posed with Smokey Bear for a trash and debris burning fire prevention poster.
In addition to posing for the fire prevention posters, Mr. and Mrs. Borgnine agreed to come to Virginia to attend the Virginia Forestry Association/Lumber Manufacturers Association annual convention at the Hyatt House in Richmond January 31-February 2. Both posters were released to the public at that meeting.
The arson poster, with Ernest Borgnine and Smokey Bear, carries the message, “Stop arson, report fire setters.” This poster will be especially targeted to traditional problem arson areas in Virginia. The appearance of this poster in public places will signal to the general public that there is a concern for arsonrelated forest fires in that area.
The second poster featuring Mr. and Mrs. Borgnine and Smokey Bear will be released to the public to coincide with Virginia’s 4 p.m. burning law, which begins March 1 and continues through May 15. This poster carries the message “You can prevent forest fires. Be careful with brush and trash burning.” The appearance of this poster in public places and communities throughout Virginia notifies the general public
