For a year, Rappahannock’s supervisors have been exploring options for disposal of solid waste as the life expectancy of the county’s privately owned and operated landfill ticked away.
Time has now run out.
On Friday, Robert Forman inspected the site on Clifton Clark’s property near Woodville and determined it could handle trash for another 50 to 60 days. He has directed Mr. Clark to prepare a closure plan, including provisions for final cover and erosion controls. (The Rappahannock News had requested permission to go along on Friday’s inspection. “Absolutely not!” was the response from Mr. Clark.)
“There’s no time limit set on when the plan must be submitted,” said Mr. Forman, solid and hazardous waste engineer with the health department’s regional office in Culpeper. “But I imagine Mr. Clark will have it done before the end of June.”
Should the projected capacity expiration date approach without a closure plan being submitted, Mr. Forman said he will make another inspection. If capacity has been
