A broken down computer meant that all these pleasure seekers, ordering this, that and the other ticket for months in advance made a slow process even slower. Each ticket was printed as it was purchased. No computer, no ticket. Four o’clock came and passed. The line at the end had long ere now been cut off 300 or so behind us, back beyond where we had started at 11 a.m.
A command decision was made at 4 p.m.: No more tickets could be sold to the people standing behind the man in the purple shirt. But you could sign up with your name and address, your order, and you could pay. The orders would be processed and the tickets sent, in order. Anne and John discussed this with the powers. Hoped they got something assured. We did as instructed and left at 4:40 p.m. for Rappahannock, only an hour and a half s drive home.
John had said, “Please don’t notice if you see me cry.” At that moment, Diana was swallowing tears and Anne owned to a problem too, but in fact, we all laughed and smiled some more.
