Wakefield
students win
national Latin
awards
Competing with 63,000 students nationwide in the 1986 American Classical League National Latin Examination, Wakefield students have won a total of 16 awards, including three first-place gold medals and two second-place silver medals.
In Latin I, first-place awards were won by Hank Sohn and Jeff Dickerson. The second-place award in Latin I was won by Bjorn Lindholm.
The Latin II first place award went to Wakefield junior Sean Bennett, and the second-place silver award to David Norris, also a junior.
The Magna Cum Laude thirdplace award in Latin III (Prose) went to freshman Tobias Dengel.
Other Wakefield award winners were: Elizabeth du Frane, thirdplace award in Latin I; Tanja Lindholm, Lewis Martin, Chris Larrieu, Alex Duncan, Jesus Blanco and Jason Buratti — Cum Laude Awards in Latin I; Susanna Homg, Cum Laude Award in Latin II, and Rae Lutes and Stephen Butler, Cum Laude Awards in Latin III.
In all, 88 Wakefield students in grades 7-11 participated in the National Latin Examination.
In the National Greek Examination in which both high school and college students competed, thirdplace awards were won by Wakefield students Caroyln Shaw, a sophomore, and by Rae Lutes, a senior.
