Rappahannock County’s own Frank Reynolds captured third place overall as well as his sixth Eva L. .Smith Memorial Award with a time of 37:18.

“You’ve shown me your back quite a few times over the years, and I thought it was time to turn the tables,” Mr. Kearney quipped after receiving congratulations from Mr. Reynolds.

Despite his runaway win, Mr. Kearney’s time was considerably slower than Steve Pinard’s course record 31:26, set last year in near-90 degree heat.

Christine Beathard placed first overall in the women’s division with a time of 45:20. She was followed across the finish line by Nancy Specht (45:42) and Mary O’Meara (46:49).

Mrs. O’Meara also took home her fourth Eva L. Smith Memorial Award for the first Rappahannock woman. Second-place winner of the Smith trophy was Firth Whitehouse (47:43), while third-place honors were taken by former Smith Memorial winner Merrill Strange with a time of49:56.

Second and third place Eva L. Smith trophies for men went to John Borgens (39:57) and Marley Hay (40:03).

Mrs. Beathard’s husband, Washington Redskins General' Manager Bobby Beathard, finished second in the 40-49 division with a time of 40:00.

Another notable performance was turned in by 8-year-old Mark Jenkins of Flint Hill, who burned up the course to take first place honors in the under-12 age group with a finishing time of54:29.
