Dean F. Morehouse of Washington has declared his candidacy for mayor of the town.
Having made his decision too late to appear on the printed ballot, he’s asking voters to write his name in the empty space under mayor, making sure to use his middle initial.
“Otherwise,” said Mr. Morehouse, “the election board has to consider the vote as being for two candidates (Mr. Dean and Mr. Morehouse).”
He was asked to run by two present council members, Mr. Morehouse said, and agreed partly from a sense of responsibility to the town and partly because he feels grateful for the acceptance given him after only three years in the county.
“I believe you get out what you put in to each situation,” Mr. Morehouse said. “I’ve tried to be involved wherever I’ve lived, and this is a special place. I do feel an obligation.”
Mr. Morehouse is serving on the board of the Child Care and Learning Center and is a member of the town Board of Zoning Appeals.
“I’m impressed by how much can be done by a small community when there’s a concerted effort,” he said. “We raised $265,000 for the new Sursum Corda building. That’s really a lot when you think of how small we are.”
