Cherokee. The jolly ride in through apple blossoms and other blooms grew dramatic where dogwood and crabapple were in full cry. Arriving at Wolftrap at 11 a.m., the trio joined a line of ticket buyers that was perhaps at that point about 250 people long. Happily we sat down in the folding chairs Anne had thought to bring, with a thermos of lemonade, glancing at Ruth Richard’s Washington Post. An hour passed.
The line lengthened behind us and the box office opened. Another hour passed and we moved forward perhaps 50 feet. Only another quarter of a mile to go. Another hour. Another 50 feet.
By 2 p.m., Anne decided we needed something to eat.
In the meantime, on a walk, Ruth has sighted John Shipman an hour behind us. He bravely abandoned his place to join us for a chat.
