Eastham said that after outfitting themselves with ski masks, gloves, two gym bags and wire-cutters the trio (Eastham, Charles and Susan Larimer) drove to Mrs. Compton’s house. They broke into the house through a basement door in the back and went upstairs. According to Eastham, Charles Larimer lit a cigarette lighter to see where he was and Mrs. Compton woke up and screamed. All three then fled the house without taking anything.
When they returned to the Larimer house empty-handed, Mrs. Larimer berated the trio for being “dumb idiots,” Eastham testified. He said that she told them if she had been there she would have done things differently.
